Product description
Creatine – What Do You Know About It?
Creatine is classified as an amino acid and is found primarily in muscle tissue (around 95%). It exists as phosphocreatine and free creatine, with a combined content of approximately 120 g in an average person. The energy supplied during intense exercise and afterward largely depends on the amount of phosphocreatine stored in muscles. As phosphocreatine reserves become depleted during high-intensity activity, energy availability decreases due to the inability to resynthesize ATP at the rate required to sustain high-intensity exercise. As a result, the ability to maintain maximum effort declines. The availability of phosphocreatine in muscles can significantly affect the amount of energy generated during short bursts of intense activity.
Interesting Fact
A scientific publication from 2007 in The Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition reviewed studies on creatine. According to the article, hundreds of studies have been conducted to assess the effectiveness of creatine monohydrate supplementation in improving exercise performance. Nearly 70% of these studies reported a significant improvement in physical performance due to creatine supplementation, with average performance increases typically ranging from 10% to 15%. It was also noted that almost all studies showed that creatine monohydrate supplementation increases body weight by about 1–2 kg in the first week of loading. The authors suggest this may result from enhanced capacity to perform high-intensity exercise through increased phosphocreatine availability and improved ATP synthesis, enabling athletes to train harder and promote greater muscle growth.
