Consultation by a paediatric pulmonologist

A pulmonologist is responsible for diagnosing, differentiating and treating such conditions as cystic fibrosis, asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis, lung cancer, and coughs, etc.A paediatric pulmonologist should be consulted in the following cases:

• when a newborn baby has been diagnosed with developmental defects or genetic diseases of the respiratory system,
• when a child breathes improperly,
• when there is a suspicion of a foreign body in the respiratory tract,
• when an allergy appears, producing symptoms in the respiratory system,
• when a child has been suspected or diagnosed with asthma,
• when a child suffers from frequent infections of the respiratory tract or coughing,
• when a newborn baby inhales the air through the mouth rather than through the nose.

A pulmonologist is responsible for:

• interventions in emergencies and in the case of disease exacerbation,
• referring to additional tests, e.g. laboratory tests, spirometry,
• referring and qualifying to surgical procedures,
• removing foreign bodies from the lungs, bronchi and trachea (windpipe),
• treatment of infectious and chronic diseases of the respiratory system, as well as preventing complications after such diseases,
• supporting the treatment of allergies.
