Cardiac echocardiogram with Doppler – children

Cardiac echo (echocardiography) is an imaging test that allows an assessment of the structure and function of the heart. The examination uses ultrasound waves, making it non-invasive and painless. This is performed together with a Doppler ultrasound to assess blood flow in the vessels.

The examination makes it possible to:

• identify parameters relating to heart rate;
• assess the structure of the heart and blood vessels and detect possible defects;
• verify the correct functioning of the valves;
• check contractility and relaxation of the heart muscle.

 

The heart echo is a test used to diagnose heart disease and monitor its progression. Indications for the examination include:

 

• chest pain, rapid fatigue and breathlessness;
• dizziness and fainting;
• murmurs in the heart;
• cardiac arrhythmias;
• abnormal results of other tests (e.g. ECG).

 

During the examination, the doctor applies a special gel to the head of a specialised device, which allows a high-quality image to be obtained. The doctor then moves the device head over the child’s chest, assessing the image that appears on the monitor. The examination is painless and completely safe. The examination takes approximately 15-30 minutes.

 

• The schedule is intended for children. At the Medicover Hospital, the examination is only performed on children up to the age of 16.
• At the time of the examination, the child should be rested, and should not be hungry or thirsty. It is a good idea to dress the child in an outfit that allows easy exposure of the chest.
• The examination can only be performed at the medical facility indicated at the time of purchase. You need to arrive with the child at least 15 minutes before your appointment.
• You should bring documentation with you to the examination, such as hospital records and the results of other cardiovascular examinations, if any.
• The result of the examination in the form of a medical impression and a photograph is available immediately.
