Consultation with a doctor at Medicover Centre

Are you planning a holiday in Zanzibar, India or Kenya? Would you like to know how to protect yourself against diseases (hepatitis B, yellow fever, typhoid fever or tetanus)? What vaccinations you should be given before you leave? All these questions will be answered by our travel medicine specialist.

Our travel medicine doctor:

• will tell you how to prepare for your trip;
• will inform you about health risks and the most common diseases in tropical countries (diarrhoea, malaria, tetanus, typhoid fever, hepatitis B etc.), including special advice if you are chronically ill (e.g. if you suffer from diabetes or cardiovascular diseases);
• will tell you more about the epidemiological situation in your destination country;
• will provide you a list of vaccinations that are compulsory and recommended before you leave (typhoid fever, yellow fever, hepatitis B, cholera etc.);
• will help you to complete your travel first aid kit;
• will give you advice on how to proceed after your return when you experience symptoms that may suggest a tropical disease.

During a visit to a travel medicine doctor, we qualify for vaccination.

Consultation with a doctor at the Medicover Hospital

During a visit, a Medicover Hospital travel medicine doctor will discuss the following topics with you:

• a detailed plan of your trip and the health risks in the area where you will be staying;
• recommended vaccinations;
• precautions you should take in order to protect yourself animal bites and against rabies;
• how to protect yourself against traveller’s diarrhoea and what to do if you happen to suffer from it;
• how to protect yourself against insect bites and malaria;
• other useful information (what to take with you in your travel first aid kit, how to protect yourself from the sun effectively, how to prepare for extreme sports, such as mountain climbing and diving, and personal hygiene in the tropics).

During a visit to a travel medicine doctor, we qualify for vaccination.

Vaccinations at the Medicover Hospital and Medicover Centres are paid additionally and are not included in the visit price. After vaccination, we issue the International Certificate of Vaccination.

 

How to prepare for a visit?

In order for your travel medicine doctor to be able to decide on the right vaccinations for your holiday, you should provide the following information during your visit:

• your travel route;
• the date of departure;
• the country that you are planning to visit;
• some details about your trip – for instance, whether you will be just spending your time in a hotel, by the sea, or you are going to climb high mountains, dive or explore caves;
• recent or chronic illnesses or conditions;
• a list of medicines taken permanently;
• tropical disease vaccinations that you had been given earlier;
• anti-malarial medicines taken in the past;
• allergies;
• pregnancy or planned breastfeeding during the trip.

It is best to visit your travel medicine doctor at least 6–8 weeks before your planned departure. Such a period allows you to plan optimal prevention measures and have mandatory and recommended vaccinations.

It is worth seeking advice from a tropical disease specialist even before “last-minute” trips.

NOTE: The scope of travel vaccinations should be determined at a specialist medical consultation. Their choice depends, among others, on the epidemiological situation of your destination country, the duration and the end point of your trip, the location you will be staying at, your immunity as well as your age.

During the consultation, a travel medicine doctor will:

• inform you about the health situation in your destination country;
• propose mandatory and recommended vaccinations;
• decide whether there are indications for malaria prevention measures if you plan to visit a malaria-risk area;
• provide you with guidelines about safe behaviour and prevention of infectious diseases in exotic parts of the world;
• tell you what you should your travel first aid kit include.

The consultation takes up to 20 minutes.

Please make sure to arrive for your appointment not later than 15 minutes before its scheduled time.

The service can only be provided at the medical centre specified at the time of purchase.
