An ophthalmologist diagnoses and treats eye disorders. During the visit, the ophthalmologist conducts a medical interview or makes referrals for further eye examinations, but does not carry out a fundus examination.

In terms of a consultation, the ophthalmologist:

• conducts a medical interview and carries out an ophthalmological examination,
• makes the diagnoses,
• provides medical recommendations,
• makes referrals for laboratory and imaging tests/examinations,
• issues sick leaves.

During the visit, the ophthalmologist can:

• remove a foreign object from the eye (in simple cases),
• remove the stitches and apply a dressing,
• measure intraocular pressure,
• inject the medication into the conjunctival sac.

The ophthalmologist can carry out:

• an examination of the anterior and posterior segment of the eye using a slit-lamp,
• a tonometry (intraocular pressure test),
• a visual acuity test/examination,
• a test/examination using an autorefractor,
• a spatial vision test/examination,
• a colour vision test/examination,
• other tests/examinations as a consequence of the diagnostic process, at the ophthalmologist's discretion.

Ophthalmologist (consultation with fundus examination and selection of eyeglass lenses)

An ophthalmologist is a specialist who diagnoses and treats eye conditions, such as conjunctivitis, dry eye syndrome and cataracts. An ophthalmologist also deals with the correction of vision defects, including astigmatism, myopia and farsightedness.

Indications for an ophthalmology consultation

Consultation with a specialist is recommended in case of the following symptoms:

• deterioration of visual acuity,
• "spots" in front of the eyes,
• double vision,
• frequent blinking,
• inflammation of the eyelids and conjunctiva,
• redness of the eye,
• itching and burning of the eyeball,
• squinting eyes when reading,
• visual field disturbances,
• photophobia,
• severe pain in the eye socket,
• severe and recurring headache.

During the consultation, the ophthalmologist:

• conducts a thorough interview, incl. regarding past and present diseases, medications taken on a regular basis, and performs an ophthalmological examination,
• performs a fundus examination, if he/she decides there are indications for it,
• makes diagnosis,
• gives medical recommendations,
• issues referrals for laboratory and imaging tests,
• issues a sick leave.

Scope of consultation

A visit to an ophthalmologist includes a medical interview and performing necessary tests, such as:

1. Visual acuity test
2. Digital eye examination
3. Measurement of intraocular pressure
4. Examination of the fundus
5. Checking the mobility of the eyeballs
6. Examination with the use of graphic charts

• colour vision
• spatial vision

1. Selection of eyeglass lenses
2. Schirmer’s test (tear secretion test)

Details of the consultation

The consultation lasts 15 minutes.

Please arrive for the appointment at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time.

The service is possible only at the medical facility indicated during the purchase.

The doctor decides about providing recommendations for corrective glasses and determines which tests will be performed during the visit. It depends, among other things, on the vision defect or the problem reported by the patient - it may also turn out that the doctor will need more than one visit.

The consultation is intended for adults.

All ophthalmology offices at Damian Medical Center are equipped with slit lamps (a slit lamp with a biomicroscope allows you to study the structures of the anterior segment of the eye - eyelid, sclera, conjunctiva, iris, lens and cornea).

The visit does not include the selection of contact lenses, only the selection of eyeglass lenses.

Ophthalmologist - telemedicine

The specialist diagnoses and treats eye conditions. The consultation with the ophthalmologist involves an interview or referral to an ophthalmic examination.

As part of the consultation, the doctor:

• interviews the patient,
• diagnoses the patient,
• provides medical recommendations,
• may issue referrals for examinations or consultations:
  • in the case of consultations carried out by Medicover - referral for consultations or tests to the Medicover Center;
  • in the case of consultations carried out by the Medicover Hospital, referral for consultation to the Medicover Hospital, and for tests to the Medicover Hospital or Medicover Center,
• issues sick leaves.

Relevant information: If the patient has been tested at the Damian Medical Centre or Medicover Centers, the doctor has access to the results During the telephone consultation, the doctor will perform all services that are possible to perform by phone. During the a conversation with a doctor it may turn out that a stationary visit will be necessary, without which it will not be possible to make the correct diagnosis and choose the treatment.
