A scrotal ultrasound is the examination for morphological
evaluation of testes, epididymis and a volume of fluid in the
tunica vaginalis, as well as evaluation of blood vessels.
A scrotal ultrasound is performed in the following cases:
- pain in the testis or scrotum;
- after injury;
- if a testicular or epididymal tumour, hydrocele, spermatocele
or varicocele is suspected.
The examination makes it also possible to establish the cause of
the absence of a testis in the scrotum.
An ultrasound is an imaging method using ultrasonic waves. The
technique uses the phenomenon of reflection of the ultrasound beam
from the structures of organs.
